The Masters Walleye Circuit goes back to Cass Lake September 18-19 Presented by Mercury

Ponca City, Okla. — August 24, 2020 — Anglers from across the country travel to Cass and the connecting chain of lakes for a multitude of reasons; the tranquil sites, the incredible Stony Point accommodations and the excellent walleye population. The men and women of the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC) will get to experience all of the same, mixed in with the heart-pounding, nail-biting excitement of two days of tough competition. Presented by Mercury September 18-19 the MWC will once again hold their two-day team format tournament at Stony Point Resort.

Walleyes on the Cass lake chain can be caught in a variety of different ways giving anglers an opportunity to do what feels comfortable to them to catch their 5-fish limit each day. “There is so many ways to catch fish on Cass.” Said tournament director Jack Baker. “This isn’t going to be a one-way-fits-all event.” The added element of only 2 fish to the scale per team with a length of 20” or greater creates a its own set of challenges that will entice anglers to make tough decisions. “It get very real at 8am when a 21” fish hits the net, because you have to make the decision so early whether you are going to need that fish or let it go to save room in the livewell for a larger one later in the day.”

One thing is for certain, the MWC anglers, Stony Point resort is about as good as it gets, anywhere. With cabins on the water, ample dock and charging areas and a great history, first-time MWC/Stony Point competitors will not soon forget the visit.

Each MWC event has a lucrative payout which is based on the number of teams entered into that event, and is awarded to 20% of the field, providing more inspiration to sign up and join the fun. In addition, to a hefty check, the first-place team also earns a $1,000 Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s National Team Championship (NTC) prize package including paid entry, travel stipend, team jerseys and plaques. Additionally, the big-fish pot, option pot and sponsor bonuses from Ranger Cup, Lowrance, Okuma, AirWave and T-H Marine Atlas Awards add thousands more for distribution among the field.

Qualified teams from the 2020 season earning points in at least three qualifiers compete for coveted berths in the 2021 World Walleye Championship, set for October 2021 on the Mississippi River in Lake City, MN. Those earning points in at least four qualifiers compete for Team of the Year honors, including a $10,000 sponsorship package and thousands more in cash and prizes to the top 10 teams in the final “best of 4” final standing each year.

Daily live weigh-ins will be held at Stony Point Resort beginning at 3:30pm both days September 18, 19.  We encourage you to watch the weigh-ins live, online, at masterswalleyecircuit.com or on our Facebook page facebook.com/MastersWalleyeCircuit.

Solid Pre-Fish Leads to Solid Win for Wilson and Lakich Presented by Mercury

Marinette, Wisc — August 10, 2020 — The field of the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC) tournament, Presented by Mercury, was scattered throughout the bay of Green Bay August 7-9 with many hoping to cash in on a historic bite. Max Wilson (Campbellsport, WI) and Isaac Lakich (Richfield, WI) have been tracking this bite for weeks leading up to the MWC event. Though a great bite was to be expected, the delayed second day of competition was not.

The Masters Walleye Circuit’s tournament director, Jack Baker, made the decision to cancel fishing activities on Saturday, August 8th due to treacherous wind and weather conditions on the bay. “We always want a safe environment for our anglers to fish in.” Said Jack about his decision. “Many of these teams are making long runs, and although that’s a choice they make and not something they have to do, I want to make sure the desire for safety stays top-of-mind rather than the fish.”

Max and Isaac worried that their fish may have moved or that other conditions would cause them to stumble when fishing resumed on Sunday, August 9. When they arrived at their spot, they found water temperatures had dropped significantly, generally signaling a loss of active fish. “We dropped our electronics and saw the fish were still stacked there.” Max said as they weighed their fish that afternoon. “I looked over at Isaac and told him the fish are still here and I knew if they were here, we could catch them.” Isaac knew that between their time on the water Max and him had done all they could have done. “We have a solid pre-fishing plan. We split up and we checked and re-checked everything. We fish very similarly so I knew I could trust what he found and he could trust me.”

Max and Isaac weighed a total of 74lbs and brought home over $17,500 in cash and prizes, including the $10,600 first-place cash payout, $3,782.50 option pot cash, $500 AirWave certificate and a $1,000 Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s National Team Championship Prize Package, including paid entry into the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s NTC, travel stipend, team jerseys and plaques.

The rest of the top five teams:

2nd: Wayne Butz & Scott Cisewski 69-12, $5,600 cash, $2,700 option pot cash $1,000 Ranger Cup bonus, $500 Lowrance bonus, $200 in Okuma reels

3rd: Jaran Cox & Quillan Rank 64-10, $3,750 cash, $1,700 option pot cash

4th: Michael McCardle & Scott Valleskey 64-01, $2,600 cash, $1,200 option pot cash

5th: Brandon & Tom McPeak 61-06, $2,150 cash

All together the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit awarded $54,772.50 in cash and prizes in Marinette, WI.

410 fish weighed a total of 2170 lbs. 14 oz. during the event.

Day 2 BLOW DAY called at Marinette due to high winds on the Bay, anglers will compete tomorrow for a final day

Safety first,

When the wind blows hard out of the wrong direction on big water such as the Bay of Green Bay it can get big in a hurry.  Anyone who has fished the bay can attest to that.  Tournament officials called off day 2 at the MWC Marinette event Presented by Lowrance this morning for that very reason.

“Small craft advisories are nothing to new to walleye fishing and MWC angler are expert boaters and well versed in big water. It is the direction the wind is blowing from that is the deciding factor on most blow days.” Stated Tournament Director Jack Baker.  ” A south or southwest wind runs right down the Bay of Green Bay for miles and there is no safe way to get out of it or run a leeside out of the wind to get to a fishing location. Waves roll for miles and it just gets bigger and bigger. The safety of our anglers is always our first priority so we will sit out today and fish tomrrow.”

The National weather service forecast was for SW and SSW winds 15-20 with gusts to 25 for most of the day Saturday August 8th. A “blow day” means that the final day of the MWC event at Marinette move to tomorrow Sunday Aug 9th, The anglers get a day off today to work on tackle or relax a bit as the bay is off limits to all anglers today.
