Cabela’s MWC Announces Site of 2012 World Championship

February 16, 2011—MINNETONKA, MN—Anglers gearing up for the 2011 Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit season will soon be battling for a berth in the prestigious $100,000 Cabela’s World Walleye Championship.

And they now know where the action will unfold: The 2012 Cabela’s World Walleye Championship will be held on Pools 9 and 10 of the Mississippi River out of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Timing is tentatively set for mid-October.

“The MWC has a rich history of holding World Walleye Championships here,” says Executive Director Dan Johnson. “Strong support from the surrounding community and the local Cabela’s store—plus the world-class fishing—make this an ideal location at which to hold the World Series of team walleye fishing.”

No matter their fishing backgrounds or home waters, many MWCers revere Pools 9 and 10 for the abundance of walleyes, diverse fishing areas and tactical options. In the years the MWC has held championships here, water conditions have ranged from flood to drought, but the mighty river has always yielded walleye gold.

In the 2012 championship, an elite field of two-person teams from the MWC’s nine 2011 qualifying events will compete for more than $100,000 in prize money. Each berth in the field is by invitation-only, carries no entry fee, and is coveted amongst tournament anglers. First place pays $25,000 in cash, and the field will share a $101,500 cash purse, along with thousands in sponsor contingencies from Cabela’s, Berkley Gulp!, Lowrance Electronics, Ranger Boats, Worldwide Marine Insurance, U-2 The Oxygenator, plus big-fish pot awards.

Full details, rules and registration materials are available at www.masterswalleyecircuit.com. Teams may sign up for individual MWC tournaments up to the Sunday prior to the event. However, anglers signing up for at least three MWC contests before the February 28 earlybird deadline are considered Cabela’s MWC Premier Teams, and enjoy a number of perks, including installment billing, special contingencies and more.
