Cabela’s MWC Heads for The Soo

–Presented by the Versus Television Network

August 15, 2011—Minnetonka, MN—World-class walleye fishing and thousands in cash and prizes are on tap when the Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit visits the legendary St. Mary’s River at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, August 26-28.

A full field of 200 boats would yield more than $100,000 in cash payouts. Plus, sponsor contingencies from Cabela’s, Ranger Boats, Lowrance, Berkley, Worldwide Marine Insurance, U2/The Oxygenator and the Big Fish Pot add thousands more to the total.

The Cabela’s MWC’s proven team format lets competitors choose their partner and double their fun, all while splitting expenses. Plus, the late-August time frame is expected to produce fast fishing for the river’s abundant walleyes, making the event a high-stakes, big-fish shootout. For details or to register, visit:www.masterswalleyecircuit.com; email: [email protected]. Keep in mind that registration closes at midnight on Sunday, August 21.

The public is invited to the weigh-ins, which will be held at Aune-Osborn Park in Sault Ste. Marie, starting at 3 p.m. (EST) daily. The Cabela’s MWC and National Professional Anglers Association will present a Youth & Family Fishing Clinic immediately after the Day One weigh-in. The first 50 youths will receive rods and reels thanks to the NPAA, and tackle packages courtesy of Northland Fishing Tackle. Adding to the excitement of the tournament, the event will be filmed for airing on the Versus network on the Cabela’s MWC television program.

Walleyes are a winner in the equation as well. Since 1984, the MWC Conservation Fund has donated more than $300,000 to fisheries-enhancement projects in states where our tournaments are held. At the St. Mary’s River event, a $15-per-boat donation from each team’s entry fee—made via our non-profit affiliate Wildlife Forever—will benefit efforts to protect the local fishery.

This is the final stop on the Cabela’s MWC East Division’s 2011 season, which also included the Detroit River out of Trenton, Michigan, in April, and Lake Erie at Sandusky, Ohio, in May. The Cabela’s MWC’s 2011 trail is comprised of nine qualifiers in three divisions. Anglers fishing at least three events (from any division) accumulate points toward a berth in the no-entry-fee, $100,000 Cabela’s MWC World Walleye Championship; teams fishing four events are in the running for overall MWC Team of the Year honors and $20,000 in cash prizes.

Cabela’s, the World’s Foremost Outfitter for hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, is entering its tenth season as title sponsor of the MWC. Official sponsors include: Berkley Gulp!, Ranger Boats, Mercury Marine, MotorGuide, Lowrance, Fishouflage, Versus (Vs.) Television Network and North American Fishing Club. Associate Sponsors include: Berkley Trilene, Energizer, O2 Marine Technologies, Northland Fishing Tackle, Ryjus, Reflections, Worldwide Marine Insurance, The Walleye Federation, Sea Grant and Wildlife Forever.
